Castles and fortified places in the Carpathian Basin

The predecessor of our website www.varak.hu was launched by our castle friend community in 1999. Our initial aims included providing any enquirers and castle friends with some basic information and ideas for hiking. We would like to do the same in the future, too. We intend to present more and more castles and fortresses on the basis of the visitors’ personal experiences and their reports.

Our previous website has become out-of-date, thus it needs complete renewal and restructuring. We have converted most of the data files of our previous collections into our new database, but this process was not completely successful. We are constantly working on correcting the errors. We kindly ask you for your patience.

We are looking forward to your further materials and short descriptions of your experiences about castles that could help us improve and expand our current database.
